Teen Arrested In Alleged Santa Rosa School Assault
SANTA ROSA (BCN) ―
A 17-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday after allegedly verbally threatening and trying to punch an assistant principal at Santa Rosa's Piner High School and then running from authorities, police said Wednesday.
The incident was reported at 3:10 p.m. at the high school, located at 1700 Fulton Road, where the teen was seen yelling at a female student, police said.
School staff intervened in the confrontation but the boy, who is not a student and had previously been told he was not allowed on campus, allegedly said, "You want me to go off right now, I'm going to take you down," according to police.
Police said the teen then tried to punch the assistant principal and challenged him to a fight.
School Resource Officer Alan Rosenthal responded and the teen allegedly charged at him and yelled that he would not go with him, police said. The boy then turned and ran from the scene, and Rosenthal chased after him.
Rosenthal eventually fired a Taser at the teen, which enabled him to place the boy into handcuffs. Rosenthal found a knife in the boy's front right pocket, police said.
The teen was arrested on suspicion of assaulting school staff, resisting arrest and possessing a knife on campus. He was booked into Juvenile Hall.
His name has been withheld because of his age.
