Vigil Held For 19-Year-Old Shot Dead In San Pablo
SAN PABLO (CBS 5 / BCN) ―
A youth group known as the South East Asian Young Leaders held a vigil Thursday for an El Cerrito man who was found shot to death in a parked car in San Pablo on Monday afternoon.
Aye Alan Lee, 19, had been a member of the youth group since 2006, said Sean Kirkpatrick, associate director of Community Health for Asian Americans, the organization that runs the youth group.
Lee was found shortly after 1:40 p.m. inside a neatly parked car in the 2100 block of Stanton Avenue, San Pablo police Lt. Mark Foisie said. He appears to have died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Foisie said investigators believe Lee was involved in criminal activity and was in the neighborhood to commit a felony. He said he couldn't go into further detail.
As of Wednesday morning no arrests had been made in the killing, but investigators were still actively working the case.
Kirkpatrick said Lee was involved in organizing the West County Youth Stopping Violence Summit, which will be held in Richmond on Oct. 17.
As a member of the youth group, Lee wrote poetry and song lyrics, and produced his own music at the youth center.
Youth group leaders have been working with the kids who knew Lee to support them while they cope with his death, and grief counseling groups are being held at the nearby RYSE building, Kirkpatrick said.
RYSE is another youth program that works closely with the South East Asian Young Leaders group.
Kirkpatrick said Lee is the third member of the South East Asian Young Leaders group to be killed in the past year.
An altar has been set up in Lee's memory at the corner of Bissell Avenue and 41st Street, Kirkpatrick said.
The vigil was held Thursday in the parking lot behind the Community Health for Asian Americans Youth Center at 3718 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond.
