Castro Valley Robbery Similar To Oakland Crimes

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

CASTRO VALLEY (BCN) ― The Alameda County Sheriff's office is investigating a takeover restaurant robbery carried out Thursday night in Castro Valley that appears to have striking similarities to a number of recent robberies in the area, Sgt. J.D. Nelson said Friday.

At about 10 p.m. two men entered a Thai restaurant in the 3700 block of Castro Valley Boulevard in unincorporated Alameda County, Nelson said.

The men ordered restaurant employees and four customers into a back room, where they robbed them and then robbed the restaurant.

Nobody was hurt during the incident, Nelson said.

Sheriff's investigators were working with other law enforcement agencies to see if the robbery could be connected to other recent takeover robberies that have occurred in Oakland and possibly elsewhere in the Bay Area.

"Obviously this is a situation where the similarities are striking," Nelson said.

The sheriff's office is also sending out additional units tonight to provide increased protection to restaurants in unincorporated areas of the county.

Anybody with information about the incident is asked to call Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Carroll at (510) 667-7721.
