Suspicious Man Approaches Girl Near Half Moon Bay

EL GRANADA, San Mateo County (BCN) ― The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a chubby man with crooked front teeth who approached an 11-year-old girl in an unincorporated area north of Half Moon Bay earlier this month.

The girl was walking near Ave Alhambra in the El Granada area around 7:30 a.m. on April 7 when the man drove up to the girl in a black vintage van, according to San Mateo County sheriff's Detective Jim Gilletti.

The man stopped the van a few feet from the girl and motioned for her to come over to the van, Gilletti said.

The girl continued walking but the man followed her until the girl ran to a group of nearby friends. The man then drove away, according to Gilletti.

The suspect is described as being about 40 to 45 years old, with a light complexion, gray eyebrows and pale lips. He was wearing a black straw cowboy hat that covered most of his hair.

Anyone who may have seen this man or know of his whereabouts is asked to call Detective Jim Gilletti at (650) 363-4066.
