Storm Forces Calif. Legislature To Shut Offices

SACRAMENTO (AP) ― The powerful storm raking Northern California on Friday forced the state Senate and Assembly to close their offices and send employees home early.

Steve Maviglio, spokesman for Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, said some employees could not get to work on Friday because of the heavy rain and high winds, which toppled trees and created dangerous driving conditions.

Those who did make it found some lights and computers flickering.

Wind blew rain through some Capitol windows, but Department of General Services spokeswoman Beth Mills said such problems were common during intense storms.
