Stanford Students Upset Over Eco-Friendly Showers

 Environment & The Green Beat

PALO ALTO (CBS 5 / KCBS) ― Students at Stanford are up in arms over the university's decision to install environmentally-friendly shower heads in the dormitories.

There are complaints about the lack of water pressure during the students' morning showers.

Students described it as a shock when they returned from winter break.

"Well, they changed all of our shower heads so we would use less water in the dorms," explained freshman Alan Shay. He recognizes the environmental benefit, but worries that the reduced water pressure is failing to give students the jolt they need before early morning classes. "Which is a good idea, but at the same time we can't wake up in the morning because we don't have any water."

Surprisingly, not all students have a problem with the hardware change. "They work fine, I mean I've never been a big fan of showering," joked another dorm resident. However, he appears to be in the minority.

The university received so many complaints that it acquiesced and agreed to install at least one hand-held shower head in each bathroom. "They get the job done. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make," offered freshman Austin Shalter.

The new nozzles were supposed to save roughly 12 million gallons of water every year.
