Flu Fears Cancel Quad Kissing At Stanford

STANFORD (CBS 5 / KCBS) ― Concern over the spread of swine flu means the annual Full Moon on the Quad event won't be happening on the Stanford University campus this year

Students normally turn out on the first full moon of the academic year to celebrate with a kiss. But the university said this week such activity would be unconscionable under the circumstances.

One Stanford junior said she always looked forward to the event. "It's just a fun event for the whole campus," she said. She also questioned whether students would respect the ban. "Well, we'll see, we just might have our own little private Full Moon in the dorm rooms, I don't know."

The university said the decision to ban the event was made after extensive medical review.

It's the first time the Full Moon on the Quad event has been cancelled.
