North Bay Suspect In Girlfriend's Murder Arrested
SANTA ROSA (CBS 5 / BCN) ―
A search for a man suspected of fatally stabbing the mother of his two children and assaulting the woman's mother ended late Monday when he was located at a family member's home and arrested, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
Law enforcement agencies in Sonoma and Mendocino counties had been looking for Honorio Pantaleon, 30, who is suspected of killing his girlfriend, 25-year-old Patricia Veronica Barrales. Santa Rosa police Sgt. Lisa Banayat said officers found the Barrales' body with multiple stab wounds in a closet in her apartment in the 6100 block of Montecito Ave. at 9:27 p.m. Sunday.
An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
Panteleon, also known as Victor Pantaleon, is also suspected of assaulting Barrales' mother with a rifle at her Ukiah home around 6 a.m. Monday. Santa Rosa police said when Pantaleon's rifle failed to fire he struck Barrales' mother in the head with the weapon.
He then fled on foot, according to police. Authorities locked down the Grace Hudson Elementary School near the home Monday morning. Pantaleon's Mitsubishi was found Monday morning near Barrales' mother's home, authorities said. Pantaleon was arrested without incident in Ukiah by the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office late Monday night.
Santa Rosa police said Barrales' brother had asked police to check on her welfare Sunday night because she previously had been the victim of domestic violence. Police found the body under toys in a closet around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
The couple's two children, both under age 5, may have been in the apartment at the time of the murder but it's unknown if they witnessed it, Banayat said.
Pantaleon was booked Tuesday morning into the Sonoma County jail on suspicion of murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Sonoma County Superior Court and is being held under no bail in the Sonoma County jail.
An investigation into the case is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call (707) 543-3590.
