South SF Bus Driver Arrested For Kidnapping

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― Police in South San Francisco arrested a bus driver on suspicion of abducting his own daughter after his wife reported the two missing on Monday, along with their car and large amounts of cash.

Officers responded to a report of a possible parental child abduction at about 5:05 p.m., when the wife of 50 year-old Anwar Baig became suspicious of the absence of her husband and their 5-year-old daughter, according to South San Francisco police.

Police learned that, along with his daughter, the South San Francisco man had allegedly left home with his personal property, his daughter's clothing, a recently purchased 2001 Chevy Astrovan and cash from numerous withdrawals from bank accounts he shared with his wife.

Investigators broadcast a statewide bulletin to law enforcement agencies.

Soon after, local police spotted Baig in Union City and took him into custody without incident, according to South San Francisco police.

Police allegedly found Baig with a large amount of cash at the time of his arrest. They also reported that the Astrovan was packed with belongings of both Baig and his daughter.

Baig was booked into San Mateo County jail for parental abduction of a child and was being held on $10,000 bail, according to police.
