Firefighters stopped the forward movement of a brush fire burning in steep terrain in Sonoma County on Friday after containing another, according to Cal Fire.
The Geysers Road fire near Geyserville grew to 400 acres, but was expected to be contained by sometime Saturday, Cal Fire spokesman Mike Wilson said.
The 50-acre Tar Fire on Saint Helena and Tarwater roads near the Napa County border was fully contained and mop-up operations were under way on Friday afternoon, Wilson said.
The Geysers Road fire in steep terrain started around 4 a.m. Thursday and spread to two separate fires that totaled 120 acres. The fire started 4 miles up Geysers Road near the Hawkeye Ranch.
The Tar Fire started around 9 a.m. Thursday as a 2-acre blaze. One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and another suffered heat cramps.
Wilson said the winds and the temperatures were lower at the fire sites on Friday, allowing crews to make gains. The causes of the fires were under investigation.
