6 Hurt After Boat Overturns Near Moss Beach
MOSS BEACH (BCN) ―
Six people were hospitalized Monday afternoon after a small boat overturned near the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve in San Mateo County, according to the sheriff's office.
Around 12:50 p.m., the sheriff's office joined the U.S. Coast Guard, Cal Fire, Pillar Point Harbor patrol, and state parks rescue swimmers in a response to reports of an overturned vessel about 300 yards off Wienke Way in the Moss Beach area.
Cal Fire Battalion Chief Clayton Jolley said firefighters found six people, including at least two juveniles, in the water. A rescue swimmer managed to bring the victims to a harbor patrol rescue vessel and all the victims were then taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia, Jolley said.
One of the victims, a 6-year-old, was flown to an area hospital due to "extreme hypothermic symptoms," Jolley said.
The 19-foot Runabout boat sank, according to the sheriff's office.
