SJSU Men Win Opener Over South Dakota State
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) ―
Tim Pierce scored 23 points to lead San Jose State to a season-opening 70-62 men's basketball win over South Dakota State on Friday.
Pierce was 6-for-11 from the field for the Spartans (1-0), who shot 48 percent from the field.
Chris Oakes added 12 points and 13 rebounds and Justin Graham chipped in 11 points. The Spartans led 31-26 at halftime.
South Dakota State (0-1) struggled offensively, shooting 35 percent. The Jackrabbits shot just 24 percent in the second half.
Garrett Callahan led the Jackrabbits in scoring with 19 points. Clint Sargent added 14 and Anthony Cordova and Kai Williams had 13 apiece.
Cordova also had 15 rebounds.
