Minivan Hits, Kills Boy On Scooter In San Jose

SAN JOSE (BCN) ― A tragic accident on a San Jose street left a 5-year-old boy dead after being struck by a minivan Friday night, a police spokesman said.

San Jose police Officer Enrique Garcia said Moses Florez was riding his Razor scooter from the north side of the 2500 block of Whitestone Court to the south side just before 6 p.m. when he was hit by a blue 1993 Ford Aerostar.

Officers and paramedics arrived and Moses was transported to a hospital where he died a short time later.

The driver of the vehicle, 42-year-old Rosa Tolento of San Jose, remained at the scene. Garcia said neither drugs, alcohol nor a high rate of speed appear to be a factor in the accident.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call Investigator Sarah Stephens at (408) 277-4654 or Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-STOP.
