Gavin Newsom's Fiancée Registers With Wrong Party

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ― San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's fiancée mistakenly registered with the American Independent Party which has a reputation for anti-immigrant, anti-abortion, anti-tax stances.

The Chronicle says Jennifer Siebel has moved into Newsom's penthouse in the city's Russian Hill and registered to vote. She was previously registered as a Republican but her Independent status wouldn't allow her to vote in the primary presidential election for a Democratic or Republican candidate, which included Newsom's choice of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Election officials say many California voters make this mistake when intending to be an Independent voter and would be better off checking the "decline to state" box.
