A gunman opened fire at an Oakland liquor store just after midnight, killing one man and injuring seven others.
Authorities say it's not clear why the suspect began shooting as people were coming in and out of the store early Saturday.
Oakland homicide Sgt. John Parkinson said police responding to the scene found people lying on the ground screaming.
One unidentified man was pronounced dead at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley. Most of the other victims suffered leg and arm wounds. They are expected to survive.
Police have offered a $55,000 reward to help capture the gunman responsible for the city's 52nd homicide of the year. There were 68 homicides the same time last year.
