Fire Near Martinez Shell Refinery Contained
MARTINEZ (CBS 5 / BCN) ―
A grass fire near the Shell Martinez Refinery had been contained Tuesday night, a Contra Costa Fire Protection District dispatcher said.
The fire, which was reported at 5:33 p.m. Tuesday off Mococo Road near Bridgehead Road, burned along train tracks near the refinery.
Several Amtrak trains were delayed, including a Capitol Corridor train traveling from Oakland to Sacramento that was put an hour and a half behind schedule, Amtrak spokeswoman Tracy Connell said.
Fire officials gave Amtrak the go-ahead to move trains through the area at about 7:15 p.m., Connell said.
The fire did not affect the refinery and appeared to have burned outside the property, spokesman Steve Lesher said.
"All operations are normal at both the refinery and the chemical plant," he said shortly before 7 p.m.
Tuesday evening's blaze followed a grass fire that burned an estimated 30 acres just outside of Martinez on Tuesday afternoon.
