Explosion, Huge Fire Guts SF Warehouse
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
A suspected explosion at a San Francisco warehouse Thursday morning resulted in a two-alarm fire that burned an upholstery and antique restoration business for more than an hour, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded to reports of an explosion around 5:30 a.m. at 11 Apparel Way and found flames shooting from the roof of the warehouse, San Francisco fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said. Initial reports stated the fire
was at 50 Apparel Way.
The incident commander first tried to send firefighters inside the warehouse but quickly pulled them out because they could not reach the fire, according to Talmadge.
Firefighters then surrounded the blaze and brought the flames under control at about 6:45 a.m., Talmadge said.
CHM Fine Furniture and Antique Restoration burned in the fire, according to Talmadge. Several other businesses in the warehouse sustained smoke and water damage.
The owner of the business was "really upset over everything" and, because he also reportedly has a medical history he was transported to a local hospital as a precaution, according to Talmadge.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
