Daly City Man Accused Of Raping SF Prostitutes
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
San Francisco police Friday said they arrested a 29-year-old man Monday for allegedly raping Mission District prostitutes.
On two separate evenings, Israel Mendez allegedly picked up a prostitute, drove her to a remote industrial area and raped her, police said.
The first incident was on June 29 at 19th and Shotwell streets and police said Mendez reportedly threatened the victim with a sharp instrument.
He allegedly picked up another victim on July 6 from Mariposa and 17th streets and beat and raped her.
Police found Mendez, of Daly City, in his car in a high-prostitution area of the Mission District, police said.
Police said he was arrested without incident is charged with kidnapping to commit rape, false imprisonment, threats and other assorted sexual assault crimes.
Police believe Mendez may have been involved in other similar incidents and anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department at (415) 553-1361.
