New CA Law Forces Paroled Sex Offenders To Move
SACRAMENTO (BCN) ―
More than 2,700 recently paroled sex offenders have been told they must move because they are violating a strict new law prohibiting them from living near schools and parks.
The number of offenders violating Jessica's Law is hundreds more than previously estimated by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The department completed notifying 2,741 sex offenders that they have 45 days to find legal housing. If they fail, they will be sent back to already jammed state prisons for violating their parole.
The department previously estimated no more than 2,100 parolees were violating the law overwhelmingly approved by California voters in November.
The law prohibits offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park.
