Suspicious Fires Under Investigation In Sebastopol
SEBASTOPOL (BCN) ―
Cal Fire and the Gold Ridge Fire Protection District are investigating five vegetation fires that occurred Wednesday night in western Sonoma County in the Sebastopol area.
Gold Ridge Fire Department Battalion Chief Darrin DeCarli said the fires happened between 6:30 and around 9 p.m. on Kennedy, Gold Ridge, Canfield, Blank and Bloomfield roads.
The largest fire, 1,000 square feet, was on Blank Road near Turner Road. Neighbors tried to douse the fire with garden hoses but it spread to eucalyptus trees, DeCarli said.
The other fires were about 40 by 40 feet, DeCarli said. Two of the fires were in the Cal Fire service area, DeCarli said.
The timeline of the fires and the number of them make them suspicious, DeCarli said.
"There's not a lot of information from the reporting parties," DeCarli said Thursday. Neither suspects nor vehicles were seen at the fires and there have been no injuries of damage to structures, DeCarli said.
