Schwarzenegger Tours Emergency Ops Center In SoCal

LOS ALAMITOS (AP) ― Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was in Los Alamitos to take a tour of a state emergency operation center that has been activated in the wake of severe winter storms.

The governor spoke with about 20 state and local officials who busily monitored weather patterns and rainfall totals.

Heavy rain and snow has pounded Northern California and the wet weather was expected to headed south over the weekend.

Schwarzenegger said preparations is key, and people should be cautious.

The governor said he had spoken with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff by phone.

Officials were also urging residents in Southern California burn areas to heed evacuation orders and not wait until the rain starts.
