Teacher Now Alert After Santa Cruz School Crash
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY (BCN) ―
A preschool teacher was alert Friday morning after being critically injured in a Wednesday car crash at her school in unincorporated Santa Cruz County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Soquel resident Sarah Dorfneister, 41, was still in the hospital but was conscious, CHP Officer Hugh Holden said. Dorfneister had to be airlifted from the parking lot of Green Acres Elementary School at 966 Bostwick Lane after the Wednesday crash, Holden said.
Dorfneister and her young son were hit while they were walking through the parking lot around 8 a.m., Holden said.
According to the CHP, the woman driving was about to pull into a parking spot in the lot when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and accelerated into the chain-link fence.
The end post of the fence dislodged and struck Dorfneister's head and she was in and out of consciousness, Holden said. Her son was also injured, mostly with abrasions, he said.
The driver, in her 30s, and her toddler were not injured.
