Santa Clara County Parolee Sweep Nets Arrests
SANTA CLARA (CBS 5 / BCN) ―
A recent spike in gang violence prompted law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County to conduct a parolee compliance sweep that resulted in several arrests on Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office.
South Bay district parole agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, officers from the county regional auto theft task force and sheriff's deputies conducted the parolee-targeted sweep between 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.
Officers reported contacting 50 "high control supervision" parolees that had been convicted of gang-related crimes, and nine were rearrested. One suspect was arrested for an on-view drug charge, four for having active warrants and four for being out of compliance with the terms of their gang and drug charges, according to the sheriff's department.
The sweep was conducted in cites throughout Santa Clara County.
