Slain San Ramon Man Found Lying Next To Burned Car

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

SAN RAMON (CBS 5 / BCN) ― A 42-year-old San Ramon man was found murdered near a burning BMW that had been shot up across the street from a Mariott hotel, authorities said Monday.

The Contra Costa County Coroner's office identified the homicide victim as Kashamir Billon.

The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District responded to a report of a smoking and smoldering car late Sunday night in the 2600 block of Bishop Drive.

When firefighters arrived about 11 p.m., they discovered Billon's body outside the vehicle and called police.

Billon, who is married with three children and lives in a house on a golf course, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police on Monday were not saying how Billon was killed, but at least three bullet holes could be seen in the driver's side door of the BMW.

"Based on evidence it was apparent that it was a homicide," Detective Sgt. Pat Cerruti said.

An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Police were actively investigating the homicide, the city's first since December 2006, and Cerruti said they did not plan to release any information that could potentially compromise their efforts.

No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon and mourning family members said they didn't know of anyone who would have wanted to kill Billon.

Cerruti could not confirm whether or not the newish gray BMW, which appeared to have engine problems, was registered to Billon.

Bishop Drive - where the murder occured - is inside the city's business park, near the Marriott hotel and the ATT and Toyota buildings.
