2 Teens Charged In San Pablo Shooting
SAN PABLO (BCN) ―
Two teenagers accused of chasing down and shooting a 16-year-old boy in San Pablo on June 11 have been charged with attempted murder, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office confirmed Monday.
Shortly after 2 p.m. on June 11 a group of four juveniles was walking in the area of 17th Street and Dover Avenue when two juveniles on bicycles rode up to them, San Pablo police Sgt. Dave Lewellyn said.
One of the victims was wearing a red hat, the color associated with the Norteno gang, and investigators believe the suspects targeted the boys because they thought they belonged to a rival gang, Lewellyn said.
When the two boys on bicycles approached the victims, three of them scattered over fences and under cars, but the boy in the red hat ran down 17th Street, Lewellyn said.
The shooter, believed to be a 17-year-old North Richmond resident, allegedly chased him down and shot him in the 1900 block of 17th Street, Lewellyn said.
Police arrested the 17-year-old the next day, Lewellyn said.
A 15-year-old San Pablo boy, who investigators believe was the second assailant, was arrested Tuesday.
The victim is expected to survive, Lewellyn said.
Charges were filed against the two teenagers Thursday, according to the district attorney's office. Their names are not being released because they are juveniles.
