SF WInter Shelter Program Begins In Tenderloin
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
San Francisco's winter shelter program will begin Sunday with the opening of the homeless shelter at St. Boniface Church in the Tenderloin District.
The Human Service Agency's Interfaith Winter Shelter Program, providing additional shelter services for single male adults, will run through Feb. 27, according to the mayor's office.
"San Francisco is committed to providing our homeless residents with the necessary housing, shelter and supportive services they need," Mayor Gavin Newsom said in a statement, adding that housing "is even more critical during the colder months."
The shelter at St. Boniface Church, located at 133 Golden Gate Ave. near Leavenworth Street, has a 60-person capacity. Shelter spaces are provided on a first come, first served basis.
Those seeking shelter are asked to come to the church after 5:30 p.m. to get a ticket, which will allow a seven-day stay and two meals, dinner and breakfast.
Future shelter sites will be at St. Mary's Cathedral at 1111 Gough St. from Dec. 14 to Jan. 2; St. Mark's Lutheran Church at 1111 O'Farrell St. from Jan. 3 to Jan. 23; St. Boniface Church from Jan. 24 to Jan. 30; and the First Unitarian Church at 1187 Franklin St. from Jan. 31 to Feb. 27.
