SF Police Probe Execution-Style Killing Of Mother
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / AP) ―
Authorities continued Wednesday to investigate why a 53-year-old mother of four was shot dead execution-style outside her home as she headed to work at the post office.
Genevieve Paez, a U.S. Postal Service customer service supervisor, was shot in the back of the head early Tuesday morning in the city's Visitacion Valley neighborhood, police said.
Her teenage daughter found her body on the sidewalk about an hour after the shooting. Police said neighbors heard a sound earlier that morning but thought it was a car backfiring.
The door to Paez's sport utility vehicle was open but nothing appeared to be stolen, leading police to rule out robbery as a motive. Investigators cannot yet explain why Paez was shot in the back of the head.
"We have no idea why it happened," said Lt. John Murphy of the San Francisco police homicide unit. "It seems right now to be a random act of violence."
Besides her daughter, Paez had three grown sons -- including one who was a firefighter and paramedic. She had worked at the post office for more than 20 years.
