Victims Identified In 3 Weekend Homicides In SF
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
The San Francisco medical examiner's office Monday identified the victims of three weekend homicides.
The first murder claimed the life of Darius Cooper-Brooks, 26, of San Francisco. That murder, a shooting, happened around 6:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of Newcomb Avenue, San Francisco police Sgt. Wilfred Williams said.
Cooper-Brooks was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Later that day, 59-year-old Calvin Fennell was fatally shot in the 100 block of Kiska Road in the Bayview District, Williams said. That shooting happened around 10:30 p.m.
Fennell, a San Francisco resident, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Someone wearing dark clothes and a ski mask was seen leaving the area on foot, but no arrests have been made in the case, Williams said.
On Sunday morning, another 59-year-old San Francisco man, Ralph Ruiz, was fatally stabbed in the 200 block of Hyde Street in the Tenderloin.
The stabbing happened shortly before 11 a.m. Ruiz was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he died, Williams said.
He said a physical altercation broke out prior to the stabbing and that the suspect managed to escape.
The suspect was described as a white man between 55 and 60 years old and about 5 feet 2 inches tall with a stocky build, white hair and a white beard. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
Police are also investigating a double shooting that happened in the 1000 block of Gilman Ave around 9:15 p.m. Sunday.
Two suspects had demanded money from the victims and a fight began when the victims refused to surrender their belongings, police said. One of the suspects shot both victims during the fight.
One victim suffered life-threatening injuries and the second victim was said to be in stable condition, according to police.
Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call the Police Department's homicide detail at (415) 553-1145 or the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.
