San Francisco firefighters battled two multi-alarm fires Sunday, one in the city's Bayview District and the other in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.
Fire crews struggled to contain a four-alarm blaze that damaged seven warehouses in an industrial area of the Bayview District, SFFD Lt. Ken Smith said.
The fire was reportedabout 10:50 a.m. at 1526 Wallace Avenue, and spread to three other buildings on Wallace Avenue and three more on Van Dyke Avenue, according to Smith.
The fire was contained as of 8 p.m., but because it was at a large warehouse that might be unsafe to enter, Smith said no crews were going inside the building to extinguish the blaze.
"All we can do is put a lot of water on it until we get it out," he said.
Marijuana was found growing in one of the buildings, and police Sgt. Wilfred Williams said the SFPD's narcotics unit was investigating whether it was an illegal grow operation.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, according to Smith.
Meanwhile, crews also worked to combat a three-alarm fire that occured at 1:16 p.m. at 264 Frederick Street in the Haight, according to fire dispatchers.
That blaze was under control about a half-hour later at 1:46 p.m. and no injuries were reported.
