Sunnyvale Murder Suspect Found Dead After Chase

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch
SAN BRUNO (CBS 5 / AP / BCN) ― A car chase for the suspect wanted in a Sunnyvale double homicide ended Wednesday night with the apparent suicide of the suspect on a San Bruno highway.

The suspect -- 29-year-old Matthew Andrew O'Reilly, 29, of San Mateo—was being sought for allegedly killing two acquaintances, Benjamin Osegura, 31, of Menlo Park and Jason Gamino, 29, of San Mateo, in a shooting Sunday night outside a strip club in Sunnyvale.

San Mateo County and California Highway Patrol officials began pursuing a known murder suspect in a black Range Rover around 6 p.m. on northbound U.S. 101, according to CHP Officer Herman Quon.

The chase continued onto westbound Interstate 380 where the vehicle crashed into the center divide at El Camino Real, Quon said.

Units created a perimeter around the scene and attempted to extricate the suspect, who was believed to be armed with a rifle, he said.

Sunnyvale police say officers found a man believed to be O'Reilly slumped over in the front seat, dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"We believe it to be the suspect in the double murder in Sunnyvale," said Capt. Doug Moretto of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Moretto said police were awaiting a positive identification from the San Mateo County coroner's office.

The incident shut down all traffic on Interstate 380 until around 8:30 p.m.
