A Salesian High School biology teacher is facing charges that he had a consensual, sexual affair with an underage girl.
The teacher apparently had the girl, who is now 16 years old, as a student within the past year.
"We arrested a 30 year old, Ricky Bonds, for numerous counts of sexual activity with a minor," explained Richmond Police Dept. spokeswoman Bisa French. "He was a teacher at Salesian High School and the 16 year old victim was a student."
Bonds is not a priest, but the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests distributed leaflets nonetheless, in front of school in April, to draw attention to the allegations.
"I got several calls from several students saying there was ongoing abuse there and that everybody knew about it, and what my biggest question to the faculty there is why wasn't this reported before?" wondered SNAP's Joey Pisitelli.
In a written statement, Salesian administrators reported placing Bonds on leave immediately upon learning of the allegations, as well as notifying authorities.
