Newly crowned World Series Champ and Vallejo native CC Sabathia was back home Monday delivering something more important than a shutout.
In the basement of the First Baptist Church in downtown Vallejo, hundreds of people passed through, eating a meal first, then, picking up a Thanksgiving dinner bag personally delivered by the New York Yankees pitcher.
Sabathia seemed humbled by the experience.
"It feels good. Like I said, I've grown up here my whole life and I'll always come back here," Sabathia said. "I have a lot of family here, a lot of friends here so it feels good to come back and help do what I can."
Safeway and Sabathia's "PitCCh in" Foundation donated the dinner bags to the needy families. The foundation helps inner city youth and their families.
A woman who received a gift bag said Sabathia's actions will be remembered long after the day is over.
"It's an honor to have someone here like that. It means a lot because some of the kids, they need somebody like that, like a role model," she said.
Both Sabathia and his wife, Amber wished everyone at the church a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
