11 Arrested In Rohnert Park Underage Alcohol Sting

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

ROHNERT PARK (BCN) ― Officers conducting an underage decoy sting in Rohnert Park on Friday night arrested 11 people suspected of supplying alcohol to a minor, according to a public safety spokesman.

A group of 18-year-old police decoys entered 28 licensed businesses during a five-hour period, and with valid identification attempted to purchase alcohol, according to Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Police and Fire Services Sgt. Arthur Sweeney.

The underage police volunteers succeeded at four businesses, and police observers arrested the employees responsible.

The businesses that violated the drinking law were: the Doubletree Hotel; Taqueria Sol Azteca; Mountain Mike's Pizza; and the Sunny Thai Restaurant, according to Sweeny, who added that it was the third occasion in 16 months that a decoy was able to buy alcohol at the Doubletree Hotel.

That business is at risk of a permanent revocation of its liquor license, which will be determined by the state department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Mike's Mountain Pizza received its second violation, according to Sweeny.

Decoys were also posted in parking lots outside major supermarkets, Sweeny reported, where 16-year-olds asked adults entering the stores to buy them alcohol if they supplied the cash. Those observed doing so were arrested when they handed over the beverages to the teenagers, and police reported making seven arrests.

The Rohnert Park sting operation was aided by Cotati and Petaluma police, and investigators from the ABC office in Santa Rosa.
