Driver Arrested In Alleged Rodeo Hit & Run

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

RODEO (BCN) ― The California Highway Patrol has arrested a motorist suspected of striking a pedestrian in a crosswalk in unincorporated Rodeo Wednesday morning and then fleeing, CHP Officer Scott Yox said.

At about 9 a.m. a witness saw a gold Mercedes come around a corner on Willow Avenue at Viewpointe Boulevard and strike a 23-year-old Vallejo man who was crossing the street, according to the CHP.

The witness told the driver to stay at the scene, but the driver reportedly took off, Yox said.

The witness, however, took down the driver's license plate number and reported it to the CHP.

Officers ran the plate and found that it was registered to 63-year-old Hercules resident Gurmail Nahel for a 2002 Mercedes, Yox said.

CHP officers tracked Nahel down and the witness identified him as the man who had hit the pedestrian, Yox said.

Nahel was arrested and will be booked into county jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo for treatment of a head injury and a minor injury to his ankle. He is expected to fully recover, Yox said.
