Two people fleeing from El Cerrito police in a stolen car were injured Monday morning when they crashed into an apartment complex in Richmond, El Cerrito police said today.
The chase began at about 6:45 a.m. when officers spotted a stolen Honda Accord being driven in the area of Fairmount Avenue and Carlson Boulevard in El Cerrito, police said.
When officers attempted to stop the car, the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Fortuna resident Gabriel Brown, refused to yield. Instead, he drove onto Interstate Highway 80, police said.
Police pursued Brown until he exited at Solano Avenue in Richmond and crashed into an apartment complex, police said.
Brown and a passenger in the Honda, Misty Troxtell, a 22-year-old Richmond resident, were both injured in the crash. They were transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment, police said.
El Cerrito police, Richmond police and the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office are investigating the incident.
