Man Shot Trying To Disarm Robber In Richmond
RICHMOND (BCN) ―
A North Richmond man was shot in the leg Tuesday evening while trying to grab a gun from a man who was attempting to rob him, Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said Wednesday.
The victim, a 48-year-old man who lives in the 1500 block of Martin Drive in unincorporated North Richmond, had stepped outside to get his mail at 8:40 p.m. when two men approached him and attempted to rob him.
One of the men had a handgun, Lee said.
When the victim tried to knock the gun out of the suspect's hand it went off, shooting the victim in the leg, Lee said.
As soon as the shot was fired, the suspects ran away.
The victim was taken to Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo, where
he was treated for his injury and then released.
Police conducted an extensive search for the suspects, but were not able to find them.
