Richmond police were searching for a gunman who shot and killed a man in the city's Southern District Monday morning.
About 10:30 a.m. police received a call reporting shots fired at the intersection of South 17th Street and Maine Avenue, Sgt. Bisa French said.
When officers arrived, they found the victim lying on the street corner suffering from at least one gunshot wound, French said.
The victim, who appeared to be in his early to mid-20s, was taken to a hospital where he died about 2 p.m. from his injuries, French said.
The suspect was described only as a black man in all black clothing.
Officers searched the area late Monday morning with a police dog to see if they could track the suspect, but the shooter was not immediately found.
