Woman Brutally Raped In Richmond; Suspect Jailed

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

RICHMOND (BCN) ― Richmond police arrested a man late Sunday night for allegedly brutally raping a woman on the Richmond High School campus while she was walking home from a grocery store, a lieutenant said.

The woman saw the 25-year-old man sitting on a curb with a bike around 11 p.m. near the campus at 1250 23rd St, Richmond police Lt. Johan Simon said.

Simon said she was attacked from behind, dragged to the ground and punched in the face.

Soon after, police received reports of a woman "hysterically screaming for help," he said.

Police reportedly found the woman, missing the clothing below her waistline and beaten badly, but the suspect was gone.

He said San Pablo police helped with a search perimeter and after about 10 minutes, a K-9 found the suspect in a tree with his bike parked close.

The woman identified the suspect as the man who raped her, he said.

She was transported to the local hospital.

Simon said detectives are looking into whether the suspect may have been involved in any other crimes in the area.
