3 Killed In Pair Of Richmond Drive-By Shootings
RICHMOND (BCN) ―
Officials believe two fatal drive-by Richmond area shootings Friday may be connected.
The shootings occurred within six minutes and one mile apart late Friday morning, according to Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan.
A 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were struck with bullets at Chesley Avenue and Filbert Street in North Richmond at 10:51 a.m., according to Gagan.
The man died at the scene, and the girl, who was seriously injured, was treated and released from medical care, Gagan said.
Six minutes later, two men, ages 21 and 24, were fatally shot as they washed a car in the 800 block of Sixth Street in Richmond's Iron Triangle neighborhood, according to Gagan.
"Based on the proximity of these shootings, the time frame and the nature of how they went down, we strongly suspect they are related," Gagan said.
He added that police "are investigating them independently to avoid overlooking any evidence."
Police are searching for a gray four-door newer model Buick with three black male occupants.
The two incidents mark the city's 31st, 32nd and 33rd homicides of the year. By this time last year, 39 homicides had occurred in Richmond.
