Suspect Arrested In Richmond Double Shooting
RICHMOND (BCN) ―
Richmond police arrested a man Tuesday night in connection with a double shooting in the city's Southern District that left one man dead and another in critical condition, Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said Wednesday.
The suspect's name had not yet been released Wednesday morning.
The shooting occurred at about 8 p.m. in the 500 block of Maine
Avenue.
A nearby officer heard shots fired and headed toward the sound. At around the same time, police dispatch received calls reporting shots fired in the area.
A man identified Wednesday as 33-year-old Antioch resident Brian McElroy was found shot to death inside a vehicle. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, a Contra Costa County deputy coroner said.
The second victim, an 18-year-old Richmond man, was found about half a block away. He was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he remains in critical condition Wednesday, French said.
Police still don't know the circumstances of the shooting, since no witnesses have been willing to come forward, but so far have no evidence that it was gang-related, French said.
McElroy is the city's 17th homicide victim this year, French said.
