A woman checking damage from a minor traffic accident was struck and killed by a passing vehicle in Redwood City Monday morning, according to police.

The San Mateo County coroner's office has identified the woman as 63-year-old Cherrill Spivey of Castro Valley.

Spivey had apparently backed her van into a construction truck on Bay Road between Second and Third avenues and had gotten out to inspect the damage, police said.

At about 7:20 a.m., a southbound vehicle hit her and threw her underneath the parked construction truck, according to police.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 45-year-old man who allegedly hit her reported the collision and is cooperating with authorities.

The accident remains under investigation.
