San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Bay Area religious leaders called on voters to reject a ballot measure that would ban same-sex marrige in California.
Newsom and leaders from various faiths spoke out against Proposition 8 at a rally at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco on Saturday.
The event was one of several rallies for and against Proposition 8 scheduled in California over the weekend.
The ballot measure is one of the most hotly contested races on Tuesday's ballot.
The latest Field Poll showed the race had tightened in recent six weeks and was expected to be close.
The vote comes five months after the State Supreme Court sanctioned gay marriage in California, opening the way for thousands of same-sex weddings.
