Power Out In Berkeley Hills; Santa Rosa Restored

BERKELEY (BCN) ― All but 42 Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers in the Berkeley area who lost power Saturday morning have had service restored, a spokeswoman said around 12:30 p.m.

The outage occurred at 9:20 a.m. and is affecting customers just north of Berkeley and in the Berkeley hills along the border of Tilden Regional Park, spokeswoman Brandi Ehlers said. Originally 442 customers were without power.

Crews have determined that equipment failure caused the outage, and there is no estimate for when power will be restored to the final customers, Ehlers said.

Meanwhile, about 190 customers in Santa Rosa had their power restored early Saturday morning following an outage that occurred Friday afternoon, a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokeswoman said.

The outage initially left 1,650 customers with no power just after 4 p.m. There was an unconfirmed report the power went out when a car hit a pole, PG&E spokesman Joe Molica said.

By 4:15 p.m., 57 customers had their power restored and more than 1,300 customers had power by 4:30 p.m., he said.

As of 5:30 p.m., all but 190 customers had power. The remaining customers had power restored by 3:59 a.m. Saturday, PG&E spokeswoman Brandi Ehlers said.
