SF Police Shoot Knife-Wielding Man
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
A 27-year-old man wielding a knife was shot by a San Francisco police officer at an apartment in the city's Mission District Sunday night, a police sergeant said.
A family member of the man called 911 at about 7:40 p.m. to report the man was breaking windows in the apartment at 550 14th St., San Francisco police Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said.
Officers responded and were allowed into the home where they were confronted by the man carrying a knife, according to Tomioka.
She said the officers tried to use pepper spray to subdue the man but that proved ineffective, and they then employed an extended range impact weapon, which was also unsuccessful.
At least one officer then fired a round at the man and struck him in the lower extremities. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to survive, she said.
The shooting remains under investigation.
