Red Convertible Sought In Pleasanton Double Murder

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

PLEASANTON (AP) ― Alameda County investigators may have something to go on in their search for the killers of a couple found beaten to death in their country club home.

Residents of the Castlewood Country Club outside of Pleasanton have received e-mails from investigators asking them if they saw a red 2001 Chevy Camaro convertible in the area around March 7 or March 8.

That was about the time police believe 60-year-old Ernie Scherer and his wife, 57-year-old Charlene Abendroth, were killed inside their home.

Authorities said they were "brutally beaten" to death and likely dead for nearly a week before their bodies were discovered.

Investigators have not released additional details why they're interested in the Camaro convertible.
