Richmond Police Shoot Pit Bull; 2 Arrested
RICHMOND (BCN) ―
A pit bull was shot and killed by police Sunday
night in Richmond
after two men attempting to evade police let the canine loose and the dog bit an
officer's arm, officials said Monday.
Police responded to the 200 block of South Second Street
at about 10:30 p.m. where two men were selling drugs in front of a residence, according
to Richmond
police Lt. Arnold Threets.
The suspects attempted to run from the scene
set their pit bull loose as officers approached, Threets said.
The pit bull bit one officer on the arm before
police fatally shot the animal, according to Threets.
The officer was transported to a local
hospital. The officer's injuries are not considering life threatening, but,
"It hurts," Threets said, referring to a bite from a pit bull.
Police continued their pursuit on the suspects
and eventually took them into custody, Threets said.
The men were arrested for assault on a police
officer and various health and safety violations, according to Threets.
