2 Teens Arrested After Gun Scare At Pinole School
PINOLE (CBS 5 / KCBS / BCN) ―
Two teenagers were arrested Friday after reports of a student possibly carrying a rifle on Pinole Valley High School's campus, prompting hundreds of students to stay on lock down and then evacuate, police and school district officials said.
It was not known if the two arrested were booked on weapons charges.
A student reported that a passenger on a Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District bus to school, possibly another student, had the gun just before 8 a.m. and may have brought it to the school located at 2900 Pinole Valley Road.
Law enforcement agencies including the Pinole and Hercules police departments, the California Highway Patrol and the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office locked down the school and closed off the road until about 2:15 p.m.
Police reported not finding a gun after an extensive search.
About 800 students were driven on Western Contra Costa Transit Authority buses to Collins Elementary School, at 1224 Pinole Valley Road, where parents were able to pick up their children, West Contra Costa Unified School District spokesman Paul Ehara said.
Anyone with information on the incident was asked by authorities to call Detective Cauwels with the Pinole Police Department at (510) 724-8941
