On the corner of San Fernando and Second Streets in Downtown San Jose is one of the smartest pieces of public art you've never heard of.
Dial a phone number, punch in a three-digit code and wait for the lights to shine. It's officially called "Show your Stripes," thousands of LED lights with preprogrammed patters that you control via phone.
Scott Giddens helped to bring the art to a new building called "The 88," a brand new downtown high-rise.
"It's not your standard building," Giddens said. "We didn't just build a building. We now have a building that showcases a piece of art."
To try it out, first call 408-287-0128. After the tone, enter any three digit combination including "#" and "*". Then, press "0" and hang up.
