Oak. Man Convicted In Murder Of Muslim Bakery Boss
OAKLAND (AP) ―
An Oakland man has been convicted of first-degree murder for the 2005 slaying of Antar Bey, then the head of Your Black Muslim Bakery.
A jury in Oakland found Alfonza Phillips III, 22, guilty on the special-circumstances murder charge. Phillips will be sentenced on Dec. 14.
Prosecutors say Phillips shot Bey in the back at an Oakland gas station Oct. 25, 2005 in a failed attempt to steal the expensive rims on Bey's car.
Bey was the senior member of Your Black Muslim Bakery and had assumed control of the store chain after the founder, Yusuf Bey, died of colon cancer in 2003 at age 67.
