2 Petaluma Teens Arrested In Thefts From Cars

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

PETALUMA (BCN) ― Petaluma police arrested two juveniles suspected of stealing items from automobiles early Tuesday morning.

Lt. Matthew Stapleton said neighbors in the Azure apartment complex notified police around 12:18 a.m. about three juveniles checking the door handles of vehicles in the parking lot. One of the suspects was seen entering one of the vehicles, Stapleton said.

The suspects tried to flee when police arrived but two 17-year-old suspects were detained. The two had items in their pockets that were taken from parked cars and they were booked into juvenile hall for theft from automobiles, Stapleton said.

Police have been investigating thefts from inside vehicles and boats during the night hours in various residential neighborhoods throughout the city, Stapleton said.

Many of the vehicles are unlocked but thieves have broken windows to steal inexpensive items that are easy to grab, conceal and carry away, Stapleton said.

Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and not leave valuables in view inside them.
